@KarenLyn Yeah, it's definitely it's own thing. On Mastodon.social I think they use the UI with lots of timelines next to each other. IIRC the best way to use that was to make topic lists rather than follow people directly. I think there's a way to do that on qoto but I haven't spent enough time poking around.

Usually people make an intro post with their interests and an introduction hashtag (#introduction I think) to find each other.
