weird fedi take
if people won't even stand up for having things forcibly injected in their bodies, what makes you think they're going to stand up for the trivial shit like 'less working hours'

@icedquinn standing up against being forced to do something you'd do anyway is hard. It requires putting principles before convenience.

@wolf480pl i'm talking about the people who specifically weren't going to do it anyway and are doing it solely out of coersion (which is a war crime, but that's beside the point)

someone said those people are going to support unions in the future

i think that's hilarious because if you're going to let your employer at your medical records and force you in to experimental shit, where exactly *is* the line?
@wolf480pl i think you can also pretty much template the whole thing and it applies to why unions aren't really a thing in the US in general.

union busting teams have been very effective and driving through town and spooking people out of it.

you can use literally the same arguments too.

"oh well i'd like if the mandatory overtime stopped but you know i'm scared to lose my job"
"well i like working 140 hours a week anyway :blobcatdunno:"
etc
@icedquinn @wolf480pl I don't have a particulars problem with unions. I have a problem with them when they tie themselves into government, or end up with their own political pander parties (Like the NDP in Canada). Then they become seriously problematic. But at the same time, they are the option for workers to punish a misbehaving company that's abusing them. Of course, companies ingratiate themselves to government to protect themselves as well.
@shebang @wolf480pl i think they're mostly a joke these days. their only power is to strike and if you do that now they just H1B more managers in and bring up the underclass of illegals if they can't do that.
@icedquinn @wolf480pl That doesn't necessarily work with skill labour though. You can't really just wave your hand and summon up 16000 Class 1A drivers.

Right now they just trickle in the immigrant replacements.
@shebang @icedquinn @wolf480pl how long does it really take to train someone on that machinery

surely not more than three months

@fluffy
Where I work it's expected that the first year is going to be completely unproductive.
That's probably why they've asked us like 3 times if we're going to get vaccinated but haven't told us we have to yet.
