1998 was the year of linux on the desktop. ever since then, there has been at least one distro that tracked mainstream proprietary OSes in terms of usability for non-technical users. (after 23 years we should be reaching for something more than 'not worse than OSX')

@enkiv2 Most of what makes Linux better is that it rejects the ideas that make OSX and Windows "usable."
Otherwise ChromeOS and Android do what you're asking for.
