Right!? They don't like that you are suffering, so they want to FF to the bit where you aren't. They want to help, but can't do much, so if you don't need a padded room, you must be okay and they don't have to deal.

Ugh... I get their predicament but... :/

@ShaMyouiMo

Posting this on here because I know @ShaMyouiMo can relate: parents just don't like knowing that you are really miserable, do they?

what

Does he need to be submissive? That sounds very normal and wholesome and hope you have that someday.

@momo

I haven't exactly been hounding you guys about it. I have been writing/recovering from writing a proposal and some weird-ass job anxiety.

So we think we can do the last assignment over the course of this coming week?

qoto.org/web/statuses/11112354

OK class, I have a proposal to write at my day job so we will take this slow, but we can't let globe-rotting @SuitedUpDev get too far ahead.

In
howtostudykorean.com/unit1/uni
we start learning systematic rules about Korean verbs and adjectives. First is reminder that verbs and adjectives go at the end of the sentence. Unlike in English, Korean sentences do not *need* a verb, an adjective will do as they contain the sense of "being" that English conveys by include the verb "to be". When an adjective is used, it does not take an object, but describes the subject (which takes the ~는 particle).

The sections on verbs/adjectives will be enough for this week.

For homework, write six sentences: 3 with verbs, three with adjectives.

@kpopncommunism @dwarf @momo @ShaMyouiMo @sakurako @dogfox

OK, class this week we should do the meat of the lesson in
howtostudykorean.com/unit1/uni

We have a new particle, ~이/가, which lack the connotation of ~는/은, indicating a contrast with something else. It is also used to indicate a sense of place with the verb 있다 and the particle ~에 on the object to indicate being "at" or going to a time or place. 있다 also means "to have" when ~이/가 is used on the *object*. Whew!

It's been a tough week for 선생님, and I know a few of you as well.

This week, just copy out the vocabulary words from the lessons we have had:

howtostudykorean.com/unit1/uni

Meet-up planning thread will be posted later this week.

Alright, class,
@momo
@SuitedUpDev
@dwarf
@ShaMyouiMo
@kpopncommunism
@sakurako , for this weekend's assignment write three sentences in Korean. They can be as short and simple as you like. Try to use the particles etc. you learned in this week's lesson (howtostudykorean.com/unit1/uni). The sentences should not be ones that appear on the lesson page.

Reply to his post with questions, comments, and your sentences. Have a fun weekend!

@tdhssh

I am going to modify the assignment since the names are so regular.
All the vowels are just ㅇ+ the vowel. ㅐ&ㅔ are just ㅏ or ㅓ+ㅣ. There is no sense in writing those a bunch of times.
All consonants but three (ㅅ,ㄱ,ㄷ) follow the same patrern. To use ㅁ as an example: 미음.
The double consonants just have 쌍 (not to be confused with 짱, the first syllable of the noodle dish) meaning "double" or "twin" in front of them.

If this assignment seems useful to you, write three regular consonants, three double ones, and the three irregular ones three times. I trust you all with the vowels.

More regular progress should pick back up soon.

While trying to spell things to each other on the call, we realized how much easier it would be if we knew what the characters were called instead of "the 'N' one" or whatever. It's a way to help us help each other study more than anything.

Firstly, want to sincerely thank those of you who came to my birthday lesson

🎉🎊감사합니다!!🎊🎉

I had a ton of fun and learned a lot! One of the things I learned is that it would be a lot easier to talk about these things if we knew the names of the "letters" in Hangul. (Oh, and Webex can eat shit. I learned that too.)

So, class, the lesson i want you to study this week is here:
howtostudykorean.com/unit0/let

Your assignment is to go back to your list of idols names and write out what all the "letters" in their name are called.

In less-uplifting news, as much as *I* enjoyed your singing, I guess my laptop got so much second-hand embarrassment that it took a dive off the counter (everyone's a critic 🙄). The drives are fine, but everyone will have to wait until my new one arrives to see the little meet-up teaser we recorded.
