I'm once again thinking about #solar -powered servers for doing things like #selfhosting or putting up a Fediverse presence.
Of course, most web apps are not built with this in mind, and they're not necessarily power-stingy nor are they designed for an intermittent internet connection or power cycling. (Although for the latter, Heroku's old 12-factor app idea is pretty in line with running out of power each day.)
What apps or frameworks might do #solar powered server better?

@mathiasx -
it's a super challenge, even though I run a solar powered intermittent mastodon instance I still have to use my alt account to manage my mild social media addiction.
The technical aspects can be overcome I suspect, the challenge is the psychology/human interaction - it is us that needs to change I suspect
My advice is if you are thinking about it then jump in - I think we are going to learn more by doing. If you do start hosting some sort of service shall we start a 90s web-ring?
@solaradmin yeah I’ve been trying to figure out how I can get started. I never got into Gemini but thought it was cool, and already run my blog as a static site generator. (Although hosted by GH, not by myself.) Web ring or whatever modern mailing list system might be interesting?
As a tangent, but did you see the other threads posts about
https://libreserver.org/epicyon/ ?
I also had it on my list to try out Gotosocial based on blog posts I’d read about how easy it is to run.
@mathiasx yeah I was looking at gotosocial but once you've set up an instance it's not recommended to change code bases.
As much as I like my mastodon setup I find hosting gitea instance equally useful, I also host a torrent client helping with Linux torrents

The #Hubzilla way of channel clones has been around, there is also #SecureScuttlebutt which did asynchronous updation.
