One lesson learned from the recent #Fosstodon drama is that one of the biggest limitations of #Mastodon is not being really designed to allow migrating from an instance to another. It would be much nicer if posts were treated more like atomic entities, univocally signed/hashed so to allow users to freely move their content around instances

@tuxdevices Beware, you're starting to describe how ATProto (the BlueSky protocol) works!

@tuxdevices To be honest, ATProto does some things better than AP, like portable identity. The refusal from a part of the Fediverse to even learn properly about ATProto is not a good sign. Closed minds, bubble, no progress.

@fabrice my exclamation was partly humorous. I haven't had the chance to explore it much, i quite liked ATP in theory and wish it was decoupled by its for-profit entity

@tuxdevices I think there's a pretty solid community and ecosystem that are growing, so maybe ATProto could survive BlueSky going bad (or away).

@fabrice i am curious to explore ATP more in the next days - found some cool reads to start from 🤓

@tuxdevices @fabrice 's (and 's, and 's) blinkers aren't new, they all basically ignore all the permissions and nomadic identity work demonstrated decades ago by / / .
