Multitasking is at the root of fractured attention. In my case, literally desktop multitasking. I just scrolled through 6 virtual desktops with 6 different apps and I checked email and other dopamine sinks in less than a second.
It's insidious and it requires an environmental solution, but I have don't have any budget for hardware like Brick or single-use devices.
So my question is, what software tools or tactics have you found that help with this?
@tetrislife I do use i3 and Alt+F often, but it's the virtual desktops that are disruptive. It's so easy and fast to switch contexts, which is good because I often have to get something from another context, like downloading an attachment to import into another tool. But then I find myself doing it reflexively.
