Do you look on you email inbox with more weight and dread than your social media feeds? I do. And it is nigh time I asked the crucial question, "why?" The fact is, email is just GOOD. Though it depends on your interface choices (which is actually a big feature, if not "convenient"). But "message over imap" has been around for a long time, predating current messaging things, and one of the biggest services of social media is just putting a shiny veneer on the old mailing lists.

@worldsendless No. I used to though. I recently migrated off of my long-time Gmail account for a few reasons. Didn't enjoy the UI, too many automated messages (felt unorganized), and didn't like the idea of Google having my personal data. So I created a Protonmail account for all my automated messages (website signups, notifications, etc) and an account with my ISP for all of my personal correspondence (using Thunderbird as a POP3 client). Much better now!

The only problem is that people have forgotten how to write long-form correspondence. Emails usually consist of only a few words.
