@anitablanchard@mstdn.social Many smaller instances are operated by single people in their spare time. Running an instance is not an immense effort, but it's some effort, and these people might just stop at any time. In practice they tend to give early warnings, but there are no guarantees.

You are on one of the larger instances, so this is very unlikely to affect you directly (although someone you follow might migrate instances at some point for this reason). There are other downsides to big instances, so it's not a clear choice in general.

@mikey People running unopposed sounds completely whack to me, I only recently learned that it's apparently relatively common in the US.

It seems your opponent has a really strong mandate though -- 72% support is a lot in any election, even with your campaign having close to zero resources. Good to know, and that wouldn't be possible without your participation.

@deshipu Even with cars you can raise the road, making cars slow down before crossings, as well as make things easier for pedestrians, as @pettter pointed out. And even in an ideal world we would likely want some roads in cities for vehicle access. @sotolf @rysiek

@pettter Ha, this made me realize that even this name for a very nice thing is infected with a cars-first ideology.

To be clear I'm not advocating for changing the terminology, it's too catchy and being this sanctimonious isn't practical anyway, just appreciating the irony in that.

@emilymbender Speaking of #feditips you can put your pronouns in your bio in that fancy table, they don't have to be part of your display name. Obviously this is mostly an aesthetic preference, just mentioning that this is relatively common practice here.
