For anyone that's placed the mastodon verification link in a website, can you tell me how long it was before mastodon verified the page?

It's been several weeks now and I haven't seen any change. Is that unusual?

@tnarock it needs to be on the front page of the site - a footer or something works well. And you might need to trigger mastodon checking by editing your profile and saving it

@mia Editing and saving my profile again solved the problem. Thanks!

@tnarock how it gets detected is quite mysterious to me. I fiddled with it for a few days and then it worked. Only tip is to get the link in place and then add to profile not vice versa.

@clathrin Thanks! That seems to have been my issue. I had the link on the profile page first and then added it to the webpage. Did it the other way around and now it's working.

@tnarock You also need to link to the website from your profile. Then it's instantaneous. For me, anyways.

@tnarock
Looks like the link is 'http://' rather than 'https://'?

Change it to the latter and it *should* work!

(Web page looks correctly set up, and the server's redirecting links to 'http' to 'https' - I don't know if it's the brief lack of encryption or the redirect that's tripping stuff up...)

@tnarock some Jekyll plugins overwrite the rel attribute. I couldn't find any problematic ones in your code though. Maybe it's the drop-down menu Mastodon struggles with?

@zsteinmetz Thanks for checking my code. Turned out I needed to save my settings profile again after fixing the link in my website.

@tnarock It’s done in code; no manual intervention. Better check your setup.
