My student’s MNRAS submission just got hammered by MNRAS editors for duplicating published material (they seem to be running some software). But the duplication was of his own thesis, which is available online. This kind of duplication, like conference papers, seems totally reasonable.

A friend got into trouble because plagiarism software discovered he was reusing stuff he'd written in earlier work, only the software said the source was by a colleague who in reality had stolen the text from my friend.
