I’m pretty skeptical of this whole “the genie is out of the bottle” take on AI stuff, as if there’s just nothing we can do but accept its effects permanently
@zkat ok but I can run these models on my old PC, it is effectively democratized at this point. We don’t have to accept it but it is in some sense out of our hands as to who uses it for what?

Did you know that the commercial production and sale of bread is regulated, despite bread being something truly anyone can do at home?
In fact it is even worse, something as broad and universal as food preparation itself is regulated!
Please explain why you think one "democeatized" activity should be regulated but the other shouldn't. Do remember that improper use of models can bring real harm to real persons.
