AP news reports that the UN has halted all aid programs at the US built Gaza pier as a result of the Israeli massacre operation which used the pier area for staging and evac.

"A core principle of humanitarian groups holds that their work must be independent of the mission of combatants in a conflict zone, so as to keep aid operations and aid workers from becoming targets."

The UN says they need time to assess the security implications of continuing to work at the pier.

@nullagent how many times has the US and it's allies used aid as a cover for military/cia actions?
Most notorious is the collecting of DNA samples to get bin Laden by masquerading as a polio vaccine campaign, but I know I've heard of more.
They're deliberately making aid work a target.

That's not quite right, if they really wanted to target aid workers they have much more extensive ways.

Rather this demonstrates how indifferent to national security people are to the security of aid workers whenever it can't be used as an excuse in some game.
@nullagent

@tobychev @nullagent In the case of Israel vs Hamas I think it's very deliberate: IL wants to starve Gaza and if they can make aid work fall into suspicion and be a Hamas target while also a propaganda victory in rescuing hostages they're all for it.
The US on the other hand I'd say are both indifferent (as with any law or rule that would apply to them) and deliberate – they don't want any witnesses, so if they can create a hostile enough environment for aid workers to avoid it it's a-okay.

@Mabande @tobychev @nullagent
That is my assessment. That pier, stupid as it was, represented a flow of aid, which the Israelis wanted cut off. They mean to starve to death the Palestinians, which they've been perfectly candid about since the outset of this genocide. And they want no witnesses to what is coming. The Americans likewise would like this kept out of the media in the run up to the election
