So bizarre to me to make discipline-based cuts like this. Absurd. The entire division of disciplines is something that I question at this point. Why not say "ok let's center our fund on societal PROBLEMS" and then let the solutions come broadly, if you have a need to prioritize aid to the economy? Like I get it, we DO need to prioritize care for society. But this feels baffling

Yeah, there is a very strange framework for valuing knowledge encoded in this decision.

But likely it is the outcome of a big internal struggle and so doesn't actually come from a coherent worldview in the first place, so no surprise the sales pitch makes little sense.

It's a right wing government, motivating things with "focus on creating jobs" is sort of the default option, so I'm not sure if there's a lot of signal in the choice itself.

But pay me little mind, this is ways outside the lands I have any sort of reliable politics knowledge of, best hope some well informed local can offer a more grounded account.
