"Vem får incitament att göra saker i en löneskillnad på ett till tusen? De som får tusen gånger mer än ingångslönerna, vad är deras incitament? Att dölja det, tänker jag. Att dölja det faktum att de egentligen inte gör tusen gånger mer än sina anställda. Och håller man på och smusslar sådär kan man inte vara normal. Då blir man en lögnaktig jävel."

Lest we forget: #Belgians elected MPs for 7 (!) parliaments last month. The country's Byzantine institutional arrangements, alongside its fluid and fragmented party systems, remain a marvel to behold. Don't read if you're prone to dizziness.

Here is a timelapse of the #Ariane6 flyover last night as seen from Southern Germany.
The stage was flying 604 km high above Norway when I took these pictures at 21:05 UTC.

This made waaay more sense once I understood you were talking about music and not a kind of collective action protest...

The first flight of #Ariane6 is scheduled between 20:00 & 00:00 CEST today from Europe’s space port in French Guiana.

Ariane 6 is critical to the next generation of ESA space science missions including PLATO, Ariel, Comet Interceptor, EnVision, Athena, & LISA, & much more beyond, both institutional & commercial.

Details on the largely test-oriented flight profile, including in-orbit engine restarts & upper stage deorbiting, plus details on how to watch 👇

I like the overall shape of the argument, but there is a lot happening in "can be settled" beyond just questions of logical decidability.

For example, the willingness of the two parties to even consider logic in the first place, a consideration needed to explain why flat earth discussions persist despite the empirical question being settled.

Their complaints about overweening certainty notwithstanding, the Biden-must-stay, how-dare-you people are the most sure they're right of anyone. Though, to me, they don't have an argument that he's going to win as much as a set of grievances about everyone who is making him lose.

That theory doesn't explain why he called the election just after the EP results: if he was _that_ calculating he would take the much safer option of waiting for some crisis closer to the normal election date so the RN would have less time to cause damage while in power.

For example the fall budget was expected to be very hard to pass, which would be an excellent excuse to call for new elections, and would give him more control over what the issues would be.

And letting the RN in is more likely to sully his reputation and have him thrown out of national politics forever than have him raised to the sky. Finally, Macron isn't able to run for president next election anyway (that's presumably Attal's job) so it is impossible for him personally to win.

@pettter
Why would you say that? He could hand over power much more effectively and easily by actually dealing with them directly rather than calling a surprise election.

The election is doubtless a loss for Macron, and largely his own fault, but this is simply because he called it without any plans or preparation. To me it looks more like he was so shocked by the EP results that he couldn't believe they reflected real sentiment and gambled he'd win in the real thing.

Looking at the end result, the parliament he got was even worse for Macron than what he started with, so whatever reasons he had they were clearly dumb ones.

People expect way too much from elections. Change doesn’t come from elections. Change happens in daily life: in human relationships, in information bubbles, in protests, in conversations, in people showing up where it counts.

Elections aren’t the source of progress. They’re dangerous single points of failure. This time, at least, it looks like France avoided the worst.

Sorry, I'm not really sure how to translate between "in a tool" and "she's got the look"?

I guess I don't understand what you meant by "tool" in this context? You mean like "he's using an IDE, so must be better than the guy using notepad"? Something like that?

@grimalkina
Can you expand further on what you mean? Judging the cook by the pudding and not their Chess ELO sounds uncontroversial?

Or do you mean when the situation when a team leader is hired because of their ELO ranking ahead of the Cheerleader captain?
