Alexey Navalny’s family and associates have so far been unable to find the politician’s body, and the authorities have been tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding his death. Here’s what’s actually supposed to happen when a Russia prisoner dies:

@anderspuck
In the nuclear realm it is either strategic or nothing, "tactical" is a bad joke dreamt up by people who feel sad for the nukes not getting to explode.

A single trident at 100 kt seems pretty fine to level Avdiivika.
@Povl

@anderspuck
See? "Use for themselves" like nuclear war is haggling about slices of bread in a famine!

The US with its 1600 deployed warheads were nevertheless allegedly so threatened by Iraq they had to invade and destroy the regime. Israel, the lone nuclear power in the middle east is nevertheless engaged in what it sees as an existential struggle with a extremely weak opponent.

Nuclear weapon numbers don't mean much once you have enough to destroy the 10 largest cities, counterforce is just a bad euphemism.
@Povl

@Povl
I suspect some asinine argument about numbers, whenever someone talks about "not enough to deter" you know
someone is either deeply careless or is out to sell you something: "deterrence" is not a solid enough concept that it can be quantitatively measured, much less with such precision you can clearly state if a single weapon category is "enough".

Biden indicates that the “devastating consequences” he threatened three years ago in the event of Navalny’s death in prison are already in motion in Ukraine. In other words, don’t expect anything new now. youtube.com/live/cvqMXRooFCo?s

This quote is not something you want to hear from someone in a country with a recent history of military coups and two civil wars:
“Security these days are not for play, especially when the men are well trained…you don’t mess with them. They don’t know the danger of making fun out of educated people in arms."

Another interesting element is the news media showing up on Mastodon.

I have a Google alert set up for my name, in case I’ve written anything stupid online - it went quiet for months, but nowadays it’s constantly triggering, and mostly foreign language articles due to European journalists branching out.

Decades before today’s migrants boarded small boats to Europe to ‘take their jobs’, European fishing ships were trawling West African waters, taking food and jobs from the locals. And they still are. bit.ly/3HXfeBu

Could you at least use the content warning functionality if you are going to go full partisan?

@philipncohen As a thanks for that answer! In exchange I offer the top 50 keywords for dissertations at Master or Bachelor level in Sweden in the subject category "Sociology", written in English and published after 2019-12-10 up until last Friday (n=555):

@philipncohen
How did you generate this list? Is there some ProQuest query interface that made this directly?

Or did you get a list of titles and then processed further? I note that Genderwatch shows up also in the "words" column, not just the "phrases" ones. Honestly why GenderWatch should be a phrase is a bit mysterious.

Also, if you have time for one more question, why 1388 recent dissertations, is that due to some date cutoff?

Yeah, maybe openAi could put out a plugin that automatically opts out of all the tracking that Google tries to get you to accept with their bad UIs.

Would also be fine with a bot that goes through at the pages of mostly useless hits that confluence search always produces...

Like, yes, more racists will hear a Chapman song now. But isn't enjoying her music without having to confront black excellence kind of the whole white supremacy aesthetic in miniature? For the ones who go on to find her work and engage with it--wonderful! But when white artists make it possible for racists to take pleasure in black artists without any immediate acknowledgment of black genius, that isn't something Chapman has to perform gratitude for.
