Is this a "sign that you have been living in techno dystopia for too long, #311"?

I was running a profitable tech PR agency. It looked impressive enough on LinkedIn. It paid for fancy dinners and weekend getaways. I had the clients, the connections, and a couple of shiny awards gathering dust on my bookshelf. My phone buzzed constantly.

But something was starting to unravel.

@erikdelareguera
Hur funkar valkampanjerna i Frankrike?

More white women voted for Trump than Biden in 2016.

More white women voted for Trump than Biden in 2020. In fact, Trump's margin of victory with white women, grew.🤷🏿‍♂️

More young white people (18 to 29) voted for Trump than Biden in 2016.

But you don't see people cursing out white women online and then blocking them, like they do to Black men.

You know why.

Being destructive is easy. Being constructive is hard. But ultimately constructive wins out over destructive.

There's something that nearly everyone gets wrong about the Ashley Madison data dump from 2015. And I should know, because I was one of the reporters who broke the story. It's my latest for @newscientist (sign up for a free account to read).

So I have this right:
Synagogue: We will host a real estate event literally in the synagogue and sell property to Jews on illegally occupied land in Palestine.
Antizionists: Colonialists! We will protest!
Israeli flag bearers: Fight us!
<fisticuffs>
Politicians: You're protesting a synagogue?! Terrorists! Antizionism is antisemitism!

I suspect this is going to be an incredibly biased poll.

Do you have a book that you are currently reading? (To qualify, it has to be a book - physical or e-book - that you have read within the past 3 days.)

Give this a boost, if you don't mind. It'd be nice to have lots of respondents.

@nus@mstdn.social
Some initial confusion about the numbers is super common though, what with the people dying and things being on fire the accounting tends to be neglected.

This counts double with the sort of rumour based reporting (aka trolling telegram) most western outlets are relegated to in the case of Russia, so I'm not at all surprised and I don't think it's noteworthy.

Certainly doesn't change the big picture story of several Crimeans dying on a beach because of the war.

Great news about HIV protection: “Results from a large clinical trial in Africa showed that a twice-yearly injection of a new antiviral drug gave young women total protection from the virus.” nytimes.com/2024/06/21/health/

@nullagent
It looks more like Ukraine attacked the naval base nearby and the Russian anti-air interception created the debris that struck the beach. I've seen claims that some russian aa missiles directly hit the beach, and not only bits of Ukrainian and Russian weapons.

In any case, this is hardly the first time there are civilian casualties in Russia due to Ukrainian fire. It's rather just another example that civilians always die in war even if you are careful, and not indicative of any new trend.
