Microsoft is suspending email and skype accounts of Palestinians who call home to Gaza. Multiple Palestinians mention buying Skype credits in order to make international calls home. But when they used those credits to call family in Gaza their entire decades old Skype and hotmail accounts were suspended.

Peter Freund told this story about Wolfgang Pauli.

A student at Cambridge, Homi J. Bhabha, who later became one of the first internationally recognized Indian theoretical physicists, was sent by his adviser to work with Pauli in Zurich.

The introduction letter said,

“Pauli, you are the only one who can possibly make a physicist out of Mr. Bhabha”,

hardly a very flattering thing to say.

Pauli, who respected the author of this letter [R.H. Fowler], interpreted it to mean that this was a hopeless case.

Så efter körts pepparspreyad utan vatten till fem timmars förhör, husrannsakan i lägenheten han är inneboende i, strip-searchning, så får han förklarat att han ska vara tacksam att dom inte släpar in han för våld mot tjänsteman.

People expect way too much from elections. Change doesn’t come from elections. Change happens in daily life: in human relationships, in information bubbles, in protests, in conversations, in people showing up where it counts.

Elections aren’t the source of progress. They’re dangerous single points of failure. This time, at least, it looks like France avoided the worst.
