New virus uncovered in China – is this a sign tick-borne diseases are on the rise?
In addition to discovering new tick-borne diseases, we’re also seeing the distribution of established tick-borne diseases changing. There are several reasons why this is happening, among which is #ClimateChange. #ClimateCrisis #GlobalWarming
After arrival around L2, #ESAEuclid immediately started to produce first images. Both instruments on board worked perfectly. But there were some issues: some straylight in the VIS instrument required survey replanning, sometimes solar X-rays needed to be flagged, and a fix was required for initial guiding problems of the spacecraft.
All this was quickly fixed.

Mercury also makes an appearance on the left.
These images were taken by the LASCO C3 coronagraph on board the

#ESAEuclid has been in space since 1 July 2023, and, after commissioning and initial calibration, started surveying the sky ultimately in February. We now celebrate "52 weeks of #Euclid in space - first year of a big journey to new physics":

These images tell a story about technology, challenges, the #Universe, but foremost about the many people that made #Euclid possible, and that are now working on the #science.
Using data from scientific group Climate Central, a new risk index ranks 48 US states (Alaska & Hawaii are excl) according to the impact the #ClimateCrisis is likely to have on populations. 9/10 states predicted to see the worst impacts are in the US south https://buff.ly/3ZWVGr4

If I were Harris, watching Biden and Netanyahu conspiring to hand me the worst foreign policy situation in forty years, I would have chosen a hard break with the WH already, just in the interest of self preservation.
Or maybe her FP advisors are not telling her how bad it is, because they're all more committed to the institutional status quo than they are to her personally? The challenge being a high-level executive is that your staff gets to filter what you know about. Evading that is a skill.
"By turning off your lights all day every day for a month, you conserved about 1 percent of the energy needed for AI to generate a picture of a duck wearing sunglasses. Isn’t he cute? Aside from the fact that he has the feet of a human man, of course."
"By dropping $7K on better, energy-efficient insulation for your home, Google AI was able to tell someone how to prepare chicken incorrectly, and they got, like, super sick—thanks to you!"

"With the information currently available a Mars mission with Starship is not feasible."

Lately she's posted about joining the After the Fire summit in Sonoma & the comfort that California survivors of megafires offered. The instant recognition & shared experience. My aunt wrote about being gifted a book another survivor wrote about their fire experience: "Today I read the book and just sobbed out all the tears I’ve tried to hold in during the past year; although each of our communities are very unique, the similarities in human experiences, feelings and struggles are uncanny"
Moderation:
- is absolutely necessary
- cannot be automated
- doesn’t scale if done by humans
- is rife with ridiculous failure modes
- is philosophically intractible
I’m increasingly of the mind that content moderation is •the• central problem of the social Internet right now, and I’m not sure we have anything like a solution in sight.
