@Pat lol nice one 😅👌🏻 and you believe those numbers too right? No issues came up on how it’s counted or if it’s counted differently across states and counties right ?
@Pat it’s because I too believe official statistics from communist countries that just got a huge Covid wave and food riots 😉😅🙏🏻
@Pat so legit 😅
@tonic Layoffs were happening around the sector as a means to safeguard profits, long before msft announced their openai partnership, but the movement and automation potential*of* openai's tools made those layoffs easier to sell and justify.
The "pivot to ai" was always on msft's docket (you can look at their research funding and publications over the past 5 years to see that), but openai's rising star and the broader tech sector layoffs gave them good cover to fire teams they likely wanted to fire anyway.
"Naïve." Mm. Have a good one.
@Wolven it’s probably naive to believe anything a large corporation says publicly , the layoffs in particular are not likely to be tied to a pre existing investment in openai but rather imho more likely to be a coordinated layoff campaign designed to keep salaries low . So any worker activity I think is more likely than “investing in ai” as a credible reason …
@omi interesting, i havent digested everything yet, but my hot take is that it would eventually be good to restrict which apps are used aswell , for various reasons , something to think about for next year perhaps 🙂
So I'm writing a paper about how I think my #college should handle #AI policy concerning
#OpenAI #ChatGPT #dalle2 #jasperai #novelai #grammerly
#stablediffusion #midjourney
and similar gen models.
What do you think a school policy should be?
One of my professors included in her syllabus a rule that AI is okay to use BUT it must be cited, along with the prompt, result, what was learned, and output must be reworked/paraphrased/summarized but cannot be used "as is" and no quoting AI, because AI cannot author (and we don't know the training sources)
What are your thoughts on this? And what are your thoughts on what a school policy should be? Many schools are trying to block the models.
Just throwing this out there now to raise awareness…University of Florida Biomedical Engineering will likely be holding a search for new department chair in the coming months. If you know a senior bioengineer that would like warmer weather and the chance to lead the most gender and race diverse department of BME in the country (https://www.bme.ufl.edu/people/faculty/), have them give me a shout.
I totally forgot i have Lex.Page invites that are unused : these help you "skip the queu" ,

It's a really simple and great app : type anything in a blank document and hit control enter for a prompt.
In response the the IAEA director's concern over the powerful blasts heard recently near the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Rosenergoatom rep Renat Karchaa called Rafael Mariano Grossi's report a "provocation." The IAEA is just trying to look busy, Karchaa suggests.

A Putin crony had a plan for keeping his dreamboat off the books — and out of the authorities' hands. It went comically poorly. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/putin-superyacht-ukraine-russia-fail-1234666402/
@freemo @rbreich both of these are to be expected : if you remove dark money and individual donors both parties receive similar amounts , corporations donate to each equally, but in the absolute republicans earn twice as much as democrats and this is due to billionaire and oligarch backing … that democrats simply don’t have
@freemo @rbreich well that bar is quite low , which democrats in entertainment do we find awful and why versus which republicans do we find awful and why is like comparing folks that are militant about peoples rights with those that clearly want to take them away and saying they are both the same (at best, and at worst , it’s often conspiratorial against some of these folks - that’s your first clue)
I'm playing my part to support #biomanufacturing #biofabrication #biofoundry(ies) and bear witness to the birth of an industry. Working with 2 novel compounds to grow bone, cartilage & other types of cells. turns out it also works for growing hearts @organamet
