We've been making enormous progress on the CapTP layer of Spritely Goblins, which lays the foundation for all the major distribued networked components of Spritely to come!

But... what exactly is CapTP, and what does it enable? spritelyproject.org/news/what-

~b boosted

I've made massive strides on CapTP for @spritelyproject and honestly, I think this is the most important work I've done in my life. But it's hard to explain *why* when few people even know what CapTP *is*.

So: CapTP explainer 🧵, right here (with blogpost to follow):

Google has suspended Element (@matrix) from the Play Store for "Sexual Content and Profanity". Basically same story as with Subway Tooter a while back. Element is to Matrix as Chrome is to the web. Curiously, Chrome is still on the Play Store.

I wrote a small, colourful fetch for MSYS2 on Windows. Written in hackable POSIX sh.

"Oh, that machine learning course looks fun."

Now everywhere I go it's neural network this and neural network that. I'm going crazy.

The solar flare just hit, all your digital lifetime's work is gone.

eg: "I'm on the Jabberverse! Message me using any Jabberverse app."

lol sounds stupid but so does every new term.

It intuitively evokes federation and a plurality or clients, even if a normie can't put it in words, something "Jabber/XMPP" doesn't really evoke in natural conversation.

The distributed instant messaging network of federated clients and servers governed by the XMPP (Jabber) protocol.

Throwing it out there.

@xmpp
Do you think it's a good idea to create a term like the "Jabberverse" to use with people?

eg. Instead of saying "use any app which uses the Jabber/XMPP protocol", say "Use a Jabberverse app". Much more natural and intuitive.

I think this could be very useful, like "Fediverse" for ActivityPub. Language is powerful when used well.

Version 2 of the info graphics with clearer recommendations (#WhatsApp - Reject, #Telegram - Be careful, #Signal - OK, #Matrix/#Quicksy/#XMPP - recommended, #P2P - recommended).

These days my head is aswim with uncertainty and optimism both.

But no matter what happens, I strongly believe in the course set for @spritelyproject. 2021 is set to be a big year with a lot of amazing stuff to show off, esp w/ the CapTP stuff falling into place.

I can't wait.

As I've said, I'm extremely proud of the work I've done on ActivityPub, but I think long run the work I'm doing on CapTP will be the bigger highlight of my career for advancing network freedom. Deserves a blogpost about why.

Both examples of building on others' great work too!
