Hi @fedilab

You well?

After a year of use we have come to the conclusion that the "eye" icon in the top-left of images needs to go. It serves no purpose, but contantly blocks elements that sit in the top corner of images.

It happens on a daily basis and is frustrating to have to click and re-download images just to see the top corner element.

The rounded edges on images should probably be removed also. Thanks for your work, it is much appreciated.

Expected behaviour: The 'eye' icon can be on the screen while the image is loading but after it loads the icon would disappear.

We might not be using the very latest version so if you've already done this, just tell.

Thanks again.

Hi @fedilab , twice today the eye-icon has impeded our vision of the subject matter.

We tried the icon today. It seems to be for hiding the image?

This is something that people should very rarely want to do, thus rather than an #eyeIcon be always visible on the screen perhaps better functionality can be achieved by placing it in a longPress menu?

What are your thoughts?

@dsfgs @fedilab@toot.fedilab.app The eye icon does get used pretty often here in general to hide sensitive material, to quickly show it (and unshow it). A longpress would defeat the 'quickly' part.

@trinsec
To be fair a long-press is less than half a second. There is no menu for a longPress so the content could be hidden immediately, rather than go to a menu. The eyeIcon is very bothersome. Maybe it can disappear a second after the screen stops scrolling?

If someone is constantly tooting images that you don't want to see, then maybe there is a better way to filter it than constant clicking and unclicking the eye? Seems like a different use case to it reason for existing.

@trinsec @fedilab
LongPress saves the media.

Maybe the eye should turn transparent after a second of no scrolling. If something is offensive a person can identify that while scrolling and click the eye asap to hide it. While the image is hidden the eye remains. While an image is showing after one second the eye turns transparent.

Best of both worlds.
