Yes, basically. You can directly add people you follow in lists (and remove them from your hometimeline. This is possible here, and is probably a vanilla mastodon feature too, but don't pin me on it), or via the settings/Follows and Subscriptions you can add more ways to autofollow things (keywords, hashtags) and decide where they get casted to (a list, your home timeline, etc).
