This is the Fediverse. Follow some news sources from other instances (most are bots, that’s fine) and comment on the posts to be more visible around the network.

That bot’s post is going to end up on many instances. Your comment will probably float and travel across dozens or hundreds of instances.

Little messages in bottles. Off they go… Bye, message! Have a fun trip!

@rob Well, whenever possible I tend to block the instances that's solely bots... ;)

Sure, but there are some quality/well-curated bots on the Fediverse that basically forward RSS feeds or tweets to a timeline. And their posts tend to get pretty good reach.

@rob Mmm, possible. I wouldn't really know because I really do block most bots since I have a dedicated RSS reader myself. I wonder if people really do interact a lot with those bots though? They usually are 0 comments as far as I could see.

Quite literally why I recommend commenting on the posts. It’s an unsaturated area of available distribution.

@rob Neat! Which kind of bots would get the most discussions on their toots?

That I can’t really answer. For me, it’s about hitching a ride along with individual statements, ideas, etc., figuring the “headline” will be the eye-catching thing catching eyes interested in a given topic.

It’s also a way to send the NiceCrew icon for a ride around the Fediverse.

Have to think on a longer time scale, too. Not about instant big growth but, rather, general exposure - being seen (period) as opposed to remaining insular to a given instance or only interacting with a handful of accounts.

@rob For that I generally sometimes browse the Federated timeline and respond on toots that seem interesting enough to respond to.

For example, I responded to yours. :D And I found it an interesting perspective, so thank you for that. :)

And this means it’s working. It’s how to reach “across the aisle” out here on the Fediverse and at least be seen as opposed to feeling like you are on a small island with no boat coming to save you :)

@rob But I wasn't responding to a newsbot, I was responding to you instead, lol. :D

Unleeeessss....

You're secretly a bot? ;)

@rob Oh man, a bot in disguise! Where have I seen that before...

@rob One thing's for sure: Interaction in general helps. Whether it be bots or to other random strangers! Well, random strangers maybe a bit more, but still, interaction is key. :D
