One thing I dislike about social media in general is just the sheer pace, the way you don't tend to see or interact with anything older than a few days.
Also on Mastodon, there seems (?) to be the expectation that you don't reply to older posts... at least, I don't see it happen and it's discouraged by the "timeline" model.

@eqyo Nah, I've seen older posts getting boosted and responded to before. It probably is more a case of "is this post still relevant?"

@trinsec Okay, nice to hear that it's not just boosting but also responding... But for some reason it does feel that way, I'll come across something I want to reply to but see that it was posted two weeks ago and then not reply after all.

@eqyo Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable responding to something over 2 weeks old, then you don't have to. I'm merely saying that it's not unheard of, 'tis all. :)

@trinsec This was just a case where I wasn't able to tell the difference between "sometimes done and okay" and "sometimes done but considered weird / frowned upon".

Anyway, I don't see a reason a priori why someone would object to me replying to an old post, and if someone does object they can say so...
So thinking logically I suppose I see no reason for this particular inhibition 🙂
