@psiie @lydiaconwell It's like a retweet. Quoting someone else's tweet while you put your commentary above it.

Mind you, some instances support this. There are modified Mastodon instances (some using Mastodon Glitch Edition, some using custom modifications (like the one I'm on)).

The instances which won't support this feature would see the toot as usual, but below the actual commentary a line like:
QT: <LINK HERE>

@trinsec Actually someone did that to one of my toots. They copied and pasted my words and added 'boosted toot' at the beginning or something.

It kind of annoyed me. It was kinda stupid. Just use the boost feature.

Actually, there's a fundamental difference and the person did you a big favor in exposure. ;)

See, if you boost it the normal way, only your followers get to see the boost.

If you quote-toot, it gets sent off to the fediverse at large as a post with a quoted toot, and *everybody* gets to see it.
