Also, I've had folks ask me if I plan to leave mastodon.social because of the possibility of it being defederated because of various issues, and the answer is, I probably won't, all this moving about is exhausting, and if I ever do move it would be to my own personal mastodon instance which I have no interest in creating now. So you might have to do without me if your server defederates mine, sorry.

@scalzi Understandable. But I might be missing out on some big things here, where'd you see about mastodon.social possibly getting defederated?

@trinsec @scalzi I've seen some discussions in other instances about how moderation on mastodon.social is lacking to the point that nastiness is slipping through and getting federated. So for some instances, defederating from mastodon.social is the only way to block off the stuff that slips through. I don't think it's necessarily a permanent thing nor an indictment of the mods/admin team at mastodon.social - it's more they're overwhelmed RN and turning off the spigot for a bit is a strategy.
