@ElizabethLeeCo@horrorhub.club Servers can silence whole servers too, you don't need to immediately defederate/suspend though?
For example, Qoto has silenced mastodon.social now, so the spam will be less for us now. Once mastodon.social has control over the spammers again, we can unsilence them and our users aren't affected by unfollowing because of suspend/defederation.
@trinsec @ElizabethLeeCo As a note, mastodon.social had it handled hours prior to your comment. Federated networks can he slow to see the results, but it was handled in less than an hour.
@ElizabethLeeCo@horrorhub.club The additional benefit of a silenced server is that users who already follow people from a silenced server can still communicate with them.
