One of the best bits so far in #DS9 is when Jake Sisko and Nog are having a bit of trouble and both their dads tells them that Humans and Ferengi do not get along.
Then both Jake and Nog ignore their parents and Jake keeps staying out late so Ben Sisko goes to look for him only to find Jake is teaching Nog how to read.
And it's like: Yay! Go younger generation! It's like they're achieving something the older generation cannot.
@lydiaconwell Well, to us it is aubergine too. She's a Trill! That doesn't mean she has to use the native Federation Standard names for food!
@lydiaconwell Half the world would call it aubergine, lol. It's only eggplant for English speakers. :D
@bag21
Woh, does this mean that eggplant is purely American?
@trinsec @lydiaconwell i think so yes. But it is an American program... 🤔
@bag21 @trinsec @lydiaconwell because #Sisko's Creole Kitchen was a restaurant in the French Quarter of New Orleans 😉😋
@Heliograph Hmm. Sisko is from New Orleans ... So maybe that does explain the aubergine word. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Benjamin_Sisko#Childhood
@bag21 @trinsec
@trinsec @lydiaconwell even that’s not true! Aussies say eggplant - UK says aubergine!
@trinsec @lydiaconwell not in the uk or probably Ireland either. We call it aubergine as well
