You know, lately I've noticed there's been a lot of anger circulating on the Fediverse.

I have to admit, in the past, I may have unintentionally contributed to the confrontational atmosphere by responding in a rather abrupt manner. However, I genuinely don't want to add fuel to the fire. That's why I'm making a conscious effort to be more mindful of my tone.

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to making the Fediverse a more positive, constructive, and safe space. I truly believe that engaging in dialogue that reflects these values is key. I must confess, though, it's not always easy for me because I struggle with understanding how my words can be perceived.

Nevertheless, I'm genuinely committed to creating a more welcoming environment here. I'll do my utmost to make that happen!

@atomicpoet Chris (realized this is the first time I used a person’s name here), I’ve followed you for some time now, and I’m sure you’ve seen my blue retro icon.

I’ve never seen you cross a line or been actually unpleasant. You want good for others and are passionate about it.

I do applaud everyone wanting to have a warmer tone, I think it makes things better. But I’ve found that I rather block than reason with people on mastodon, as I won’t get reason back, just anger:(

I think you should not be afraid of blocking people/instances on the individual level if that helps with your sanity. That's perfectly fine.

What you should be afraid of is instances blocking whole instances because their admin has a beef with another admin. I sadly know a few admin like that.

My admin had been a bit controversial (but never evil/mean) in the past, so our server got instance-blocked quite a few times just for this ... I would consider it pettiness. Oh and also because our server refuses to block instances because others said so.

But on an individual level? Block away! You need to take care of yourself! Of course, preferably while staying polite and all that but that should speak for itself.

Just my opinion. Sorry for interjecting.

@trinsec @atomicpoet I wish that didn’t happen as much as it does, but it’s kind of a sign of democracy in the making. It’s always cleaner to have Oceania and the thought police running things, but it’s also scarier.

Mastodon’s giant failing is the lack of easy and complete migrations. I think that would be a better help to a tricky problem. That and smaller instances.

ActivityPubs biggest failing is that it’s real common I see a post with no comments, when it has comments:(

@trinsec @atomicpoet Oh, and you are right. Arguing with people that just want me to be wrong and start praising them for being right (which is sadly damn common) is terrible for my health. Lots of that going on:(
