Third day in a row now that I have to clean up my cat's mess. It's definitely not going great with him.

I'm kind of hoping at this point he'll show signals soon that he's tired of living, because, well, it's unlikely to improve. I'm also not really getting the idea that he's enjoying his life so very much anymore.

But he still likes to be near me even though I can't cuddle with him anymore for about a year now. And he still enjoys the sunshine while napping. So I can't justify yet to make the big decision unless a vet recommends it or if the situation at home is starting to be too much.

...

Why am I crying now.

Went to the vet and I am giving him 2 more weeks to see if it'll improve. I will get antibiotics this friday and see if his pain will be less and that his accidents will also stop as result.

The vet said that if the accidents keep going after the antibiotics are done, this will also be a good reason to stop. But at least I've got 2 more weeks to prepare myself mentally for the decision.

Damn, that's tough! You know they won't live as long as you, but he's been your roomie for so long... 🥺
In my experience, when he stops grooming and eating, that's your sign.

*hugs*

@StroomAfwaarts He still eats, but he's not terribly superb at grooming anymore, his fur is kinda matte nowadays. He still tries, he's just not great at it anymore.

He still follows me around, even though he's awfully in the way most of the time. He doesn't take the hint to go aside well anymore.

I'm chatting with my sister who lost her lovely cat a year ago to old age, asking her details about how she'd recognize the moment, what she's done, etc.

My biggest issue with my cat atm is that I can't do much. I can't even help him out with anything. I can only pet him and feed him. I can't check him up myself without ending up all bloodied. Possibly he's having too much pain to allow me to do much with him, but it also means I just cannot help him. Which sucks. Otherwise I could've helped him a little, cleaning him up for example. But now, it's just kinda waiting until the inevitable.

I'm possibly going to the vet tomorrow if I can get an appointment, and it's starting to look more likely that it'll be the last visit.

I mean, I know cats live shorter than us.. but it could end a bit less shitty (including literally), you know? Just very old and tired and just sleeping and that's it. Not suffering like mine does now and needing painstillers every evening.

I hate it that they end up suffering.
