Baranof Island, Alaska, covers 1600 square miles—but has only 14 miles of road. I'm fortunate to be here for the next week, staying in Sitka, birding, hiking, and visiting family.
Don't overlook the Sitka surf scene either — these guys and gals were out there surfing a storm swell in the blinding hail this morning.

@ct_bergstrom Just checked out of curiosity - water temp today in Sitka is 43°F vs 47° in Seattle so not as big a difference as I would have guessed. But still WAY too cold for me!

Water temp in Marquette MI today is 35.6F, maybe a hardy UP surfer was out there.
@ct_bergstrom And it's actually warmer in Sitka today then Seattle. Break out the flip flops.
