I'm very glad that Nature is calling attention to this important issue.
BUT....I really wish they had credited Annie Denton, an undergraduate student in our "Calling Bullshit" course, for uncovering the Rosy Wolf Snail example.
@ct_bergstrom Both ChatGPT and GPT-4 compensate for Google by underestimating the Rosy Wolf Snail by 1 or 2 orders of magnitude. But the geometric mean is pretty close to the right answer!
