I think Elon has figured out that normal people aren't against him building guns. Especially if he puts in the announcement that General Motors provided M-16s to the military for years and maybe even mentions Porsche's manufacture of tanks and calls it a necessary step as an automaker.

@leyonhjelm @TheBabylonBee If you go back to WW2 then Tesla is probably the only car company in the US that hasn't made guns. So statistically it's basically inevitable that they do.
It's an openly available design and there's a market. I'd almost be surprised if he doesn't, unless he specifically doesn't want to deal with BATF manufacturer licensing.
