@Dogismycopilot The part about the US having roads, police, schools, and fire departments before income tax is sort of misleading. Those things were much less funded before income tax. We did not have the highway system we have today, one-room school houses were more common, most local fire departments were volunteer and not anywhere near the standards we have today and police departments were also not to the standards we have today.

One room school houses did a considerably better job at educating students than the union factory education model. And do pray tell, what kind of interstate highway system were you hoping for, given the still nascent state of the automotive industry. There was a vibrant interstate network of private passenger and cargo transport through railways and waterways though.
