General question for the #Fediverse but do some instances have different character limits than others? I'm seeing some posts with large amounts of text, but I've got a 500 character limit on my end.

@sfoxx Going to do some digging. I can get a bit wordy and the character limit has been putting a cap on the kind of posts I can publish.
Yes, and I REALLY wish tables of instances would list character limits in addition to things like user numbers and posting frequency.
I figure it must be harder to figure that out automatically, so that's why it's not in there.
So within #Mastodon there's a configuration variable for the admin to be able to tweak character limits.
And then in platforms other than Mastodon, on #Fediverse, other platforms will have different character limits by default anyway.
@volkris Yeah, character limit information would have been helpful while I was researching what instance to sign up with. While migrating isn't the worst thing, I'll be sad to lose the posts/convos that I've had on here.
