Mastodon meta

My least favourite sharp edge of Mastodon is the fact that when you view someone else's post you only see replies to it that are known to your server - so there's actually a good chance there will be relies that are completely invivible to you, especially if you run your own instance

I'd love it if tapping a post kicked off a request back to the original server that fetched the current reply count, and provided a "view all replies" button if there were replies not yet visible to me

@simon which seriously begs the question, is mastodon the best implementation for #microblogging for #fediverse? By now I should've had my own instance up and running, but my worry of missing on much of the conversations I'm getting on now is pulling me back. It is as if mastodon, unintentionally, centralised the fediverse rather than guaranteeing its decentralisation for ever.

Yes! And people need to realize, and keep in mind, that and in particular don't fully decentralize social media, but rather distribute it out to many independent centers.

Personally, I think this was a missed opportunity. could have done more to actually head toward that goal of decentralization.
