Indeed, throughout much of Donald Trump's time in the White House, political violence in and around DC was a constant presence, sometimes only threatened, sometimes full-blown. I organized and attended protests where counter-protesters in Confederate-flagged attire aimed to menace. 2/ #USpol #Jan6

Reporting says the National Guard was offered but DC and the legislative branch refused to bring them on, even as the administration was warning them that they should step up security of the Capitol.
