Under the FairTax proposal the wealthy would have to pay a lot more in taxes even as the poor would enjoy the explicit and actively progressive move of the check they would get to help pay for essentials!
The proposal was intentionally designed to help the poor. Whether it's good or not, we should not pretend it is something it's not, and ignore that.

Republicans do one thing and one thing only, donor maintenance.
They help their billionaire donors evade taxation, environmental stewardship, public citizenship, regulatory oversight, impartial judicial decisions, and genuinely free markets.
The GOP help their donors keep harmful monopolies, politically divisive malign influence campaigns, profitable pandemics, foreign campaign funding, and feed at the trough of political corruption.

Billionaires have seized all the power in the world because they've spent decades globalizing big money in a way that allows them to strangle nations and puts them above the regulation of any nation. If we are ever to reestablish democratic restraint of the rich we have to negotiate ways to globalize democracy.

Globalization of democracy requires removing the means of extortion.
Oil is that means of extortion.
Most of the worst despots on the planet are propped up by oil revenues or by alliances with oil despots.
Take away their oil revenues and they're just another tin pot dictator.
The anti-democracy machine is funded with oil revenues. Accelerate the transition to renewables and save democracy.

Totally agree, Nicole. In fact most warfare since the discovery of oil has been the struggle over control of oil. This has led to global geopolitics completely intertwined with oil. We’d like to think that saving the planet will be simple - just go solar, etc. but getting out of these geopolitics can’t help but be massively disruptive. But we gotta face these difficulties anyway.

Republicans enjoy a low a level of trust because they've worked hard to create that distrust. Their Jan 6 coup attempt and it's cover-up are just a few such examples.
They removed the child tax credit, so it's impossible to give credence to the GOP'S supposed concern for the poor.
Several studies show that regressive forms of taxation do *not* impact the rich the same as it impacts the poor.
It accelerates the enrichment of the wealthiest.
