Personal blogs are the new black! They're not "old school", man, they're retro. It's like horseshoe theory for social media: I'm now so far behind the times that I'm a trendsetter.
If you're one of the (old s)cool kids and have a self-hosted Wordpress blog, you can install the ActivityPub plugin so anyone on the fediverse can get your blog posts in their regular feed, like old-fashioned RSS. Or corded phones.
Follow me by searching for @Mikal@www.mikaljakubal.com in the search bar.
That said, I'm still figuring out #ActivityPub. Any help appreciated. Problems to solve:
1) Photos from my blog posts don't show up when linked on Mastodon, just the text.
2) When the post shows up on here, ActivityPub apparently pulls the title and feature image caption and starts the post with that. It's awkward. (See screenshot).
3) While my account here is verified, i.e. linked to my website, I don't see how to get the website on my ActivityPub-linked-Mastodon account verified.
Halp!
@volkris
I don't have any other accounts besides Mastodon and don't feel like making one just to test this.
This is all fairly new, so I'm sure there are lots of bugs that are being worked out. It's not a huge deal, since I will just link directly to new posts, but it's a really cool feature that I hope it gets streamlined soon.
I understand.
The Mastodon developers have made some... odd... choices in development that have held that particular platform back.
It could be that what you're seeing is considered a feature, not a bug, by the devs, so I just hope they're getting enough feedback to have them improve the platform as users need them to.
Fediverse has so much more potential.
