Remember: "Debt ceiling negotiation" is code for "Republicans don't want to pay for the things they already agreed to" and they're willing to crash the economy for it.
Remember: Republicans passed a trillion dollar tax break for corporations and the rich that was supposed to pay for itself. Now they're complaining about the debt they racked up.
Remember: Republicans oppose funding the IRS to collect taxes from rich tax dodgers.
And so on.
House Republicans voted against this bill 200 to 9, and that the legislation didn't even provide borrowing authority to fund it is probably a pretty good sign that they were right.
Democrats voted us in to this position as a block with only one vote against.
It's silly to say Republicans agreed to this when they put pen to paper fighting against it.
