I really don’t get why #socialNetworks keeps counting following/followers as useful #metrics.

Do you count your friends in real life? Do you see any trend change because of it?

If it were up to me, I would keep those numbers outside of profiles.

You are what your ideas are, not what your numbers tell us.

The numbers tell others things about the account, though.

Chances are someone who’s being followed by many people has content that’s worth following (circularly :) )

Also, large numbers suggest opportunities to engage with more people through that profile.

@volkris I can understand your points but I usually follow someone because of their contents and not their numbers. When I have to decide, I usually browse their profile history to understand if I find something interesting/useful.

Yeah, and I get that, and I even personally do the exact same thing. I’m like you with that.

But other people use the platform differently, and I understand them as well.

A lot of people are really focused on sort of branching out and building a web of content on social media. I’m not, but I appreciate that other people are, and those numbers are useful for them as they shape their experiences here.
