I like that the #RedditBlackout is happening. Because it demonstrates how dependent many people have become on only this 1 website controlled by a few rich people.

I hope this is a wake-up call for people and it will lead for some communities to seek independence.

The Internet is !!!NOT!!! just 5 large websites.

I believe in a decentralized Internet; huge central websites with the goal to be a "community of everything" are missing the point of the #Internet.

@Wuzzy But what you loose is consistency, continuity and resources. Consistency in rules, mods and admins, continuity that ensures your posts to be there in two years and resources to moderate and develop new software. And overview. And easy access. Otherwise I also love the #fediverse 👍

and you also lose the focused development resources raised and then managed by those operations.

Distributed is inherently less efficient, with duplication of effort and communication overhead. Sometimes the advantages outweigh those costs, but this applies to the development effort itself as well.
