I’m a cranky old-web person but I’m just genuinely fucking mystified that the reaction to either Jack’s or Zuck’s new corporate social media landgrab isn’t a loud unanimous laughing “no, get fucked”. Twitter and Facebook were a warning, not an instruction manual.

Restrained morning followup: I’m not mystified, that’s a flourish (I was in fact cranky), but I am frustrated. I get the reality of human behavior, that social media is entertainment in large part for many people, that ease and group size are draws. People are just being people.

But it’s still willfully repeating intentionally-forgotten history. These are both hyper-fucking-corporate land grabs. These are known very shitty social media tycoons opening their jaws and saying “come on in”.

The key is that so many people simply don't have the same values that you do, don't care about the land being grabbed.

They're happy to repeat the history because they get a new shiny toy out of it that they'll get bored of after giving the company a bit of profit.

You're seeing a bug that so many see as a feature.
