Mastodon is great, the only thing I miss on this app is quote posts. I know they have a bad rap bc of Twitter, but every major social network has this functionality for a reason (Tumblr, LinkedIn, Facebook, IG). As a journalist, I’d love to add commentary and amplify great info, build on ppl’s points, etc. You just can’t do that the same wait with replies! Is there any chance we might get them on here?

@taylorlorenz
Quote-tweets themselves were users hacking the product which didn’t have the feature.

My own personal hack is to reply and then self-boost to mimic a quote-tweet.

@paninid @taylorlorenz I understand they are likely coming but I really hope they don’t. Even just an automated screenshotting type of thing where you can add commentary in your own post over a picture of post would be fine instead. We shouldn’t tie posts together like that as a way for people with large followings to sick their followers on someone they disagree with.

Anyone wanting to sic their followers on someone can simply link the thing, perhaps with a screenshot as you suggest, so keeping QT away from authors doesn't block the negative practice; it only blocks the positive that comes from it.
