Political scandals the topic for Brandon Rottinghaus of University of Houston. He asserts that scandals are more accept today than decades ago, but does not assert that Trump is responsible for that trend. His boast that he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any votes is largely true. When faced with four criminal indictments of their front runner, Republicans just point fingers at Hunter Biden. #cspanwj #politics #USpolitics #politics #trump

I think so many people miss that isn't simply a cause of socially bad things but is also the result of negative factors in the social environment, things that had been bubbling under the surface for years.

It's easy to hold Trump responsible for things in the same way that it's easy to promote all sorts of superstitious ideas: turning my had backwards simply makes my team do better!

But the reality is so much more complex.

Trump took advantage of complicated political and social undercurrents that we should have been addressing for years, but that we were dismissing.

To the extent that it doesn't matter what Trump does, that just reflects that this whole thing was never really about him in the first place. He was simply the suit onto which so much of the public projected their existing complaints.
