TIL Daddy Koch (Frank Koch) stole intellectual property from his employer and got sued. That meant when he was setting up oil refining plants he had to do so outside the United States. He went to Russia, which did not respect IP rights.

When he came back to America he was paranoid that the Soviets were taking over the government. He wrote manifestos about it. He submerged his children - the Koch brothers Charles and David (I think) in this paranoia.

This explains a lot.
