Reminder that battery powered buses are basically unusable in the real world. It is not an exaggeration to say that this concept has already been debunked. If you must have electric buses, it should be powered by overhead powerlines. If not, then you will have to buy something like hydrogen buses instead.
@Hypx or hybrids.
I always think about the amount of energy that could be reclaimed through regenerative braking for vehicles that size.
@volkris Hybrids work too. Hydrogen buses are basically hybrids but with a fuel cell instead of a diesel engine. So it is already zero emissions.
@Hypx well the problem with hydrogen, as interesting as it is, is energy storage density.
But I don't really disagree with you. Just throwing out some other ideas for anyone who happens to be passing by.
@Hypx oh personally I have no problem with fossil fuels. We can make quite efficient engines, even running on diesel, and with regenerative braking, that's a lot of energy being recouped.
A hybrid system running a very efficient engine at its most efficient speed is the concept that most interests me.
@volkris That's likely the short-term solution. Hybrid buses are more feasible than either BEB or FCEB right now.
