For 2024 I wished we'd create more spaces for actual conversation about how to not only moderate but govern decentralized systems.

Especially when servers and communities have very different founding principles/beliefs currently there are only very blunt tools (like for example server block/defederation) and I'd be interested if we can find better methods (whether they'll directly be implemented is a different thing).

Also I find the question how t manage splitting up and re-merging of communities interesting: It's kinda easy to take a bunch of people and move to a new server but currently we see some of these very binary breaking events and very little in regards to how to allow people to easier rejoin communities (this is only slightly connected to server migration of accounts).

And then there's the whole democratic decision making angle.

Like, we got a lot of stuff to figure out (and to probably prototype and evaluate). And I hope we can do it better than just having a few conferences or a set of grants for the usual organizations and suspects who feel comfortable with these often highly academic setups and have the time and resources to participate.

@tante I think the key is empowering users rather than managing them
