@neil yeah, but I've also seen a few fediverse GDPR issue incidents lately. Some of them are just poor design choices, others are omitted features, some are bugs.

Like, Pixelfed had a big warning that account deletion is not currently federated, and that it is coming; a user decided to delete their account anyway & then email every federated instance a GDPR erasure request.

Opposed to that is the current Lemmy issues where user media is permanently stored & there is no way to delete

@thisismissem under GDPR is it sufficient to merely request deletion, or does it have to actually be done?

How does GDPR handle something like email, if I email a picture around and then want to delete the picture, what happens to copies on other email servers? Does GDPR care?

Erasure is tricky in distributed systems, but I'm sure GDPR considered the email example since it's not new.
